About
I grew up watching my Dad fix things, build things and create things.
While I loved music, worked in business and finance, I found over
the years that working with my hands much like my Dad, fit me more.
For 5 years, I remodeled homes in Oregon. Upon returning to Iowa in 2009,
my wife and I began Hammer In Hand to share our love of
remodeling, designing and creating with the Iowa City community.
I value honest, hard work.
I strive to provide the best quality service I can, at a rate that
respects both you and me.
I look forward to helping you with your projects.
Jamison (Jamie) has always been curious, wondering how things are put together, questioning how things work. He soon began attempting to put things together on his own quickly leading him to a career in construction.
Combined with his appreciation of art, design and aesthetics he has developed and eye for what "works". His ability to bring out the unique details in existing homes and see potential through a home's previous designs and disasters brings value to his clients.
Commitment and a strong work ethic serves him well and will soon be evident when he begins work on your project.
He and his wife live in Iowa City with their baby girl and two dogs.
Deanna
Schweitzer
Deanne has been recreating spaces ever since she could move a piece of furniture. As a young girl she rearranged her room over and over. When she discovered graph paper, she began to create whole house plans.
College lead her in different directions, but with the encouragement of a friend she took a job at a local furniture store in Washington Illinois. For the next 10 years (1997-2007) she worked in stores and freelanced on her own helping clients create and recreate spaces they loved. She has worked in Illinois, Nebraska, and Portland Oregon.
After meeting her husband in a coffee shop in Portland, they married and returned to Iowa to create together. Deanne is currently working creatively on projects with Jamie and developing a design blog among her other creative endeavors. Their daughter, all the while, is amongst it all.

Various trades people and resources.
Although his full time working years are over and he is enjoying a slower pace of life, Dad continues to enjoy various aspects of construction and likes to add a helping hand from time to time. He possesses a lifetime of experience of building houses, remodeling and working in the HVAC and refrigeration trades.
He is Hammer and Hand's consultant and along with his wife, Mom, are an inspiration to both Jamie and Deanna.
Over the past years operating in Iowa City, Hammer in Hand has developed a strong network of contractors whom they may call upon when specific skill sets are required to complete a project.
Likewise various material and design resources are available and are often employed to make Hammer in Hand's projects a success.
